Stabling equipment is inherently safer when it’s built to last. Classic offers many fill options for stall doors, stall fronts, and partitions. Choose from steel bars to steel mesh, to wood or high-density polyethylene fill. Most designs are a combination of fill options to achieve the style and desired functionality.
Steel bars and steel mesh fill options provide the most visibility and the most airflow for ventilation but provide less privacy for your horse. Classic offers a range of tongue-and-groove fill options for horse stalls that provide both structural and aesthetic benefits. While no product exists that we can say is completely “horse proof”, we offer you high-quality choices to keep your horses safe.
Our premium grade Southern Yellow Pine is the strongest of the soft woods and our most popular option. Cost-effective and relatively low maintenance, it is a very durable and structurally stable lumber that can easily be stained and have other protective finishes applied to it.
Southern Yellow Pine boards are 2-inch by 8-inch tongue-and-groove.
Also known as tiger wood or zebra wood because of its natural black striping, Brazilian hardwood is one of the most durable woods in the world. It is higher in cost than Southern Yellow Pine, but it is significantly more durable for use in horse stalls.
Ideal for humid climates, Brazilian hardwood does not splinter and is very resistant to bugs, decay, and rot. The color and grain of the wood may darken over time as it is exposed to weather. Like most hardwood, it will grey over time. We recommend treating it with Penofin oil-finish products to preserve the wood’s natural look.
Brazilian Hardwood boards are 1-inch by 6-inch tongue-and-groove. To provide additional airflow into the stall, Brazilian hardwood fill can have venting slots routed into the edges.
High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is a virtually maintenance-free fill option. With no fillers that decrease strength, our pure HDPE is completely moisture resistant and can be cleaned and sanitized easily. Incredibly durable, it will not crack or splinter and is impervious to insects, rot, and bacteria.
More expensive than our other fill options initially, the durability of HDPE boards provides tremendous value over time, making them popular with veterinary clinics and larger breeding facilities.
